General Tips to play Spanish Bay Golf Links

Spanish Bay Golf Links is located near the ocean, with views of the water on 16 of 18 holes; a low piercing ball flight is favorable. The greens at Spanish Bay Golf Links are very large and undulating, be prepared to hit long large breaking lag putts; accuracy is a premium into the greens here, which makes this a true target golf course. The fairways are very undulated as too, the ability to hit from uneven lies is essential to scoring well here. Length is always not the deciding factor in low scores on this course layout as it is a target oriented golf course. Placement in the fairways and accuracy into the greens will always have more of a reward than the long ball. The lateral hazards on Spanish Bay Golf Links are all sensitive protected environmental areas noted by green tipped red stakes, and you are not allowed to enter these hazards, play local rule; is one stroke penalty.

Here is a snippet from the Caddytips from The Links at Spanish Bay:

Hole 2
Short, Uphill – Par 4 – 307/300/265 Yards

Tee shot: There are three different ways to play this tee shot, regardless of your play, target left center, and it will play one club uphill. The most conservative would be to lay up short of the fairway bunker right; this requires a 195 yd shot from the blue tees(190gold/155 white). If you are feeling a little bolder, a shot of 225 yds from the blue tees will carry the bunker on the right (220 gold/185 white). A risky shot, because of the hazard right and left that encroaches into the fairway, would be to hit a fairway wood or driver to just in front of the green.

Approach shot: This shot will play a full club uphill from the middle of the fairway. This green is protected by one deep sand trap short left, O.B. long and a lateral hazard right, this will require you to carry the yardage to the green. This green is 29 paces deep, so check the wind and swing smooth. Accurate pin position will be the key your success on this hole as the green is very large and undulating.

Green: This green slopes generally from back to front and left to right, with the grain pulling to the front of the green. Several ridges divide this green into front and back halves, and left and right halves. The ridge on the left runs down to a swell on the front of this putting surface, with the other half of the swell is created by a ridge coming in right to left off of the shelf on the front right.
